Read today's Scripture together as a family
Create a Sacred space in your home where you can read Scripture and pray together both as a family and alone whenever you would like to spend some quiet time with the Lord. He would love that and is always waiting to hear from you and spend time with you!
Psalm 90:12-13, 14-15, 16-17
"You are lacking in one thing.
Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor
and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." Mark 10:21
AFTER READING TODAY'S READINGS, DISCUSS THE FOLLOWING TOGETHER
We all know the commandments. We work to keep them, but to sell everything we have?! To give to all we have to the poor and follow Christ?! This challenge made the man in today's Gospel walk away sad, and it probably would make us do the same thing. Our things, our activities, our desire to have or be more than others - all these might stand in the way of following Christ the way we are called to. What Jesus is saying to us today is that nothing should stand in the way of doing for Him and for others. We don't really have to sell all we have, but we do need to make sure that we keep everything else in our lives where it needs to stay - out of the way of our path toward following Christ! Are there obstacles that get in our family's path to Christ? How can we move them or find ways to get through them?
Gather the family for this great game! Give every person five coins. Tape a piece of masking or colored tape of some kind about 6 inches from the wall and another about 4-6 feet away from the wall. Everyone will take turns standing behind the tape farthest from the wall and try to shoot or flick their coins closest to the tape by the wall without going over it. Whoever has the most coins closest to the tape without going over, wins! Post pictures on your class portal!
Discussion: The 2nd Grade class discussed temptation in class today. As a family, talk about how the object of the game was to get as close to the tape or boundary as possible without crossing the line. Was it tempting to cross over the line to get a little closer? Do we sometimes test the limits placed on us by rules or the Commandments? Why might it be dangerous to do this? Free Will allows us to make the choice to either cross the line into sin or stay in friendship with Christ. We face these choices all the time in our day to day life. How can we manage our temptations and keep from crossing the line into sin?
Since October is the month of the Rosary, watch the video below and then follow the link in Additional Resources to the Rosary booklet. Pray the Rosary as a family at least once per week this month!
